SAY NO TO NOORDIN HAJ NOMINATION FOR DPP.

Following the appointment of DPP Keriako Tobiko as CS Environment and Forestry, the Public Service Commission was tasked with the duty to shortlist and interview candidates for the position. After successful interviews by a select panel chaired by University of Nairobi Don Dr.Elizabeth Muli. With all said and done 3 names were submitted to the President and Noordin Haji picked for vetting by the Parliament.
But why would I say No to Mr.Haj who is former deputy director National Security intelligence service?
1.Who is Haj,we may know him as a lawyer by proffession but on matters prosecution, philosophy of ethics, background experience and achievements, we tend to ask a lot of questions. On what criteria was he nominated not to mention his ability to work in the public interest. Other candidates like Dorcus Odour would be better placed regarding the above factors.
2.Haj happens to be brotherto a sitting senator who is very close to the government. I would not be wrong to raise the issue of Conflict of interest in this nomination. As I stand to be corrected,i feel politics played a role in the whole process which makes it morally and ethically null and void.
3.During the interviews, the media was forcefully Locked out of the proceedings, the public was not allowed to witness the interviews which according to the Constitution is necessary. I still ask Why??What was being hidden, what happened behind the scenes?
4.Talking of professionalism, the constitution recommends that A person only qualifies to be appointed DPP If he or she qualifies to be a high court judge and has acted in that capacity for not less than 15 years. As for MR.Haj,only God knows knows when he met this qualification.
In summery, as a member of the public and a concerned citizen,I disagree with the Nomination of Noordin Haj to succeed Mr.Tobiko.Its clear that the shoes Tobiko wore are so big for Haj to put on.
Its my prayer that Parliament uses it independence and powers to mandate the Public Service to begin a fresh interview and nomination process because what we have now is not what a country with dignity would want to have as Director of Public prosecution.
